RigSMARTS™ 3 – Wellbore Pressure Managment
The objective of RigSMARTS™ 3 is to equip drilling field supervisors with a comprehensive understanding of fluid statics and dynamics in the wellbore. The participants gain the ability to better handle well control, hole cleaning, lost circulation, hydraulics, surge/swab, drill string and BHA design, and cementing operations. Taught in a manner easily understood by field personnel, the course utilizes practical materials, exercises, and hundreds of animated illustrations.
What You Will Learn
Clarify mechanical concepts of pressures in the wellbore, including static and flowing fluids.
- What factors impact pressure?
- How does pressure affect the wellbore?
- What determines wellbore pressure limitations?
Use pressure concepts to effectively optimize drilling operations and avoid non-productive time:
- Well Control
- Lost Circulation and ECD
- Hole cleaning and packoff
- Tripping practices and surge / swab
- Bit and drill string hydraulics
Adjust drilling fluid properties to balance wellbore stability, hole cleaning, and improve ROP.
- Use pore pressure and fracture gradient charts to establish wellbore pressure limitations.
- Design effective leak-off test (LOT) and formation integrity test (FIT) procedures.
- Match bit nozzles and drill string / BHA components to optimize bit run hydraulics.
- Plan casing and cementing jobs to avoid lost circulation and flow after cementing.
- Clarify managed pressure drilling applications including underbalanced and mud cap operations.
Who Should Attend
Operator technical support and operations supervision personnel, Drilling Contractor rig crew and technical support personnel, and Service Company technical support personnel.
Instructors
Instructors are field-seasoned professionals with excellent communication skills who have worked in the oil industry as managers and team leaders.
Duration
