Drilling Mechanics and Math
The Drilling Mechanics and Math workshop improves operational effectiveness of rig site personnel by providing foundational math skills focused on practical drilling and completion applications.
What You Will Learn
- Math skills:
- Order of math operations
- Identifying and using the correct units
- Unit conversion
- Manipulating fractions, decimals, and percentages
- Using a scientific calculator
- Rig Mechanics skills:
- Forces on the rig floor and in the wellbore
- Mechanical Advantage
- Levers, Gears, and Pulleys.
- Fluid Mechanics
- Hydrostatic pressure, buoyancy turbulence, and friction.
- These skills will be practiced for daily rig operations such as:
- Well Control
- Casing and Cementing jobs
- Drill string make up torque and line pull.
- Pipe Tallies
- Hole cleaning and ECD
- Mixing drilling fluids
- WOB and BHA requirements
- Pump liner requirements
Who Should Attend
Operator technical support and operations supervision personnel, Drilling Contractor rig crew and technical support personnel, and Service Company personnel including fluids / solids control, directional / BHA / MWD, downhole Tools, casing and cementing, bit, wellhead / BOP, QA/QC, and logistics support. A calculator is required.
Instructors
Instructors are field-seasoned professionals with excellent communication skills who have worked in the oil industry as managers and team leaders.
